The old door opens with a soft creak,
spilling a little shower of surprised notes from its tiny bell…,
and a few fiercely-golden dust motes greet you with a lazy swirl
as you enter this beguiling curiosity shop, here at the far
end of Main Street, in Green Town*. |
|
Low
rays of orange October sunlight warmly usher you through a threshold
of shadowy gingerbread trim – into a realm of cool underwater-stillness
and mummy-gauze smell…, and you become aware of the papery
whisper of ancient posters, the low chatter of mysterious ceramics,
and the soft rustle of fabric troubled by restless tattoos... |
Symbols
and images, dark and light, mix in you as they trickle by like
decanting Dandelion Wine... By all means, look around...! We
hope you find what you've come looking for, and that, whatever
it happens to be – “It” doesn't mind that
It's been found... |
Oh,
there's still plenty of time yet to browse. You may discover
"a special gift" for that certain "October Friend"
you cherish..., or, perhaps you've only just realized you're
seeking something for yourself that you didn't know you wanted
-- yet now know you must possess... |
But
we don't advise you to linger too long after midnight -- because
the Carnival's coming to Green Town (it's a Fall tradition,
since before you were even born. Who tells us? Why, Tom
Fury tells us, that's who...!). We wouldn't miss it for
the world, though it's probably best you're not left behind,
in the dark -- when The Autumn People return... |
